Experience a groundbreaking fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and avant-garde expression with this striking Kujaku Oni-Hagi (Literally "Peacock Demon Hagi") Chawan. Handcrafted in Yamaguchi Prefecture by the highly acclaimed master potter Yamane Seigan at his famous Kosai-an kiln, this bowl represents a masterful evolution of historical pottery.

This specific chawan pushes the boundaries of traditional Oni-Hagi, which is celebrated for its wild, coarse texture and dramatic, heavy glaze runoffs. Master Seigan has elevated this raw style with his revolutionary Kujaku ("Peacock") technique. The exterior showcases a breathtaking cascade of thick, frothy white and rich sea-foam blue glazes melting over a dark underglaze.

The true masterpiece is revealed inside: the interior base features a stunning Fused Glass Center. Utilizing a meticulous glass-fusion process, a central pool of deep Emerald Green Glass is beautifully ringed by a vibrant Sapphire Blue glaze border, perfectly capturing the primal, hypnotic beauty of a peacock's eye. Standing on a dramatically cross-cut high foot ring (Wari-kodai), its raw clay presence beautifully captures the spirit of Wabi-Sabi.

🌿 The Spirit of Hagi Ware & "Seven Transformations"
As detailed in the included studio booklet (Shiori), authentic Hagi ware features a unique, porous clay body. With regular use, tea microscopic particles naturally penetrate the microscopic pores of the glaze over time. This alters the depth and color of the surface—a poetic aging process celebrated by tea masters for over 400 years as Hagi no Shichi-henge ("The Seven Transformations of Hagi").
