Elevate your collection with this magnificent vintage Japanese sake cup (Shuhai/Guinomi), crafted by the revered 16th generation head of the Eiraku family, Eiraku Zengoro XVI (Sokuzen, 1917–1998). Sokuzen is a titan of 20th-century Kyoto ceramics, renowned for his work for the prestigious Senke tea schools.

This piece is executed in the classic Ninsei-utsushi (仁清写) style. Master Sokuzen draws inspiration from the legendary 17th-century potter Nonomura Ninsei, characterized by a refined, cream-colored glaze with delicate crackle and sophisticated enamel work.

The cup features a minimalist and elegant Pine Needle (Matsu) design. In Japanese culture, the pine tree symbolizes longevity and steadfastness, making this cup a meaningful piece for celebratory drinking or display. The needles are rendered in subtle gold and teal enamels over the soft glaze.
A unique and charming feature is Sokuzen's playful interpretation of the foot: it is a warikodai (split foot), a style traditionally associated with Hagi ware, executed here with typical Eiraku precision.
